  • Overview

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Comply with set safety standards while performing essential job functions; specifically, the handling of radioactive waste. Use caution while operating equipment and machinery. Retain knowledge of training material. Operate during 2nd shift as needed (start/end times may vary).

    Responsibilities

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    Essential Functions Statement(s)

    • Flexibility to rotate between shift schedules.
    • Perform activities of Waste Operator as directed by the Floor Supervisor or Shift Superintendent (SS).
    • Complete time sheet daily in accordance with CM-M-BO-003: Finance and Accounting Manual
    • Maintain Plutonium Equivalent Curies (PE-Ci) and Fissile Gram Equivalent (FGE) Inventory Program.
    • Use forklifts, scissor lifts, boom lifts and other powered industrial tools in the plant.
    • Perform the handling of radioactive waste containers.
    • Coordinate completion of complex maintenance tasks and related functions between operations and maintenance.
    • Generate, implement, and verify lockout/tagout (LOTO).
    • Perform and supervise safety walk downs and reviews.
    • Maintain conduct of operations for all operations activities.
    • Interpret readings and trends, analyze recorded information and report to Shift Superintendent.
    • Perform the repackaging of radioactive waste (e.g., Remote and Contact Handled Waste) include sorting, segregation, treatment and repackaging activities.
    • Perform the processing of radioactive waste, liquid (e.g., Supernate or Sludge) and the processing, repackaging Transuranic (TRU) and Low Level Waste (LLW).
    • Perform the receipt and preparation for transfer or shipping TRU Waste, LLW and Mixed LLW.
    • Prepare lift plans and perform operation of Crane and Hoists.
    • Interface with other project groups (e.g., quality assurance, procurement, document control, environmental programs, health and safety).
    • Meet physical qualifications of a radiation worker, and have ability to qualify as a radiation worker II in regards to an annual respirator fit and annual or biennial respirator/Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) physical.

    SKILLS & ABILITIES:

     

    Education: High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED).

     

    Experience: 1 year related experience. A Bachelors or Associates degree in science, health physics, or a related field may be accepted in lieu of experience or any combination of education, training and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.  

     

    Preferred: 2 years nuclear or radioactive waste handling experience.

     

    Computer Skills: Internet Navigation.

    Physical Demands

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to wear personal protective and safety equipment when handling radioactive waste. This equipment includes but is not limited to a respirator, safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, hard hats, safety harnesses, and bubble suits. The employee is occasionally required to climb stairs, ladders, and stand for extended periods of time. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

     

    Work Environment

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate.
